O A K H E A R T
((Bad at titles, sorry bout that~)) Oakheart padded around camp, trying to think of something that needed to be done. His gaze flickered to the pile of fresh-kill, and it seemed pretty well stocked. Patrol maybe? Maybe. His tail flickered in coordination with his gaze. The large tom gave out a great sigh, nothing to do and, as he glance around the clearing, he didn't even see anybody else awake. It was nearly sun high, too! Tail twitching, the tom laid down on the hard packed earth and tried to relax. The feeling of the warm sun of new leaf felt wonderful after the cold moons of leaf bare, and it did have a bit of a soothing effect, to an extent. The warm smells drifted in on a gentle breeze as the forest began to revive itself after its long slumber, ruffling his soft fur. These did help him relax, but not quite enough for him to just lay there and be lazy. Plus, a deputy couldn't be lazy! And Oakheart was anything but lazy. But what should he do? The thought of maybe seeing if Mistwing, the medicine cat needed help with anything crossed his mind, but he hadn't seen her yet today and didn't want to disturb her if she was asleep. Then again it was sun high... Well, he could wait a while longer to see if any other cats came out, right? Returning to a sitting position, the tabby tom curled his tail around his paws and sat. Ears twitching, he began to groom his scruffy brown fur.[/blockquote]

I woke up feeling hot and sticky. The fur on my belly was slick with sweat and odd spikey clumps had formed along my back. My mouth moved revealing my teeth in a grimace at my pelt. I began grooming myself vigorously, taking care to put each hair back in place. I loathed looking untidy and it was only tolerated when I was distracted, like when I am healing. I knew the growing warmth that followed winter as the season changed was the cause and sighed. I would need to relocate my bedding now that I no longer needed to sleep in the warmest part of the den.
Fully awake and presentable, I rose and padded back to the herb storage niches. I laid my ears back in annoyance as I noticed all the bare patches. Taking quick inventory, I realized most of the herbs had barely lasted the winter and it would be best to begin replacing them all. It was the beginning of new leaf and many of the herb would be just starting to bud. It would be a few weeks before they would reach optimum growth, but it wouldn't be harmful to take a pawful. That way if something does happen the herbs would be there. I began making a mental list of the most urgent: chervil, feverfew, juniper berries, lavender, marigold, poppy, tansy, and yarrow. Most of these were flower-based plants and would be easier to find near running water. The falls would be the first place to look.
Satisfied with my decision, I stepped back and made my way towards the den entrance. Standing just in the shadow, I glared out in to the light knowing it would be worse when I stepped out into the sun. Judging from the amount of light it must be close to sun high. Taking a quick look around the camp before moving out into the temporarily blinding sun, I noticed a large shape sitting in the middle of camp. I pinned my ears back as I narrowed my eyes causing my gaze to sharpen. With a humph I recognized the shape as Oakheart, clan deputy. I slide out into the sun pausing to let my eyes adjust and recover from the piercing light, before making my way towards the deputy.
"Greetings Oakheart. Are you enjoying the weather?"
I knew my voice sounded formal and a little sarcastic, but that was just who I was. I gave Oakheart a little smirk and sat down near him, swishing my tail to the side. Hopefully he wouldn't be offended because I would enjoy his company to the falls. His presence would make gathering herbs easier. In the very least he would provide an extra pair of eyes and would be extremely helpful in the task to carrying the herbs back to camp.
Character: Mistwing Tagged: Oakheart Comments: Oakheart is awesome! He reminds me of one of my good friends. Always has to be doing something xD I bet his responsibilities as deputy make him more aware of his moments of inactivity because the deputy is suppose to set the example for other warriors. O A K H E A R T
Oakheart started at the top with his face and chest fur, and his need for something do lent him speed in grooming his fur, but it didn't keep him from doing a nice job. Actually he almost always had his fur clean, soft, and shiny. It just seemed to naturally want to go everywhere and make him look scruffy much to his displeasure. Taking special care to clean the longer fur of his tail, the job was finished and he once again was left alone with his idleness. Well if he was going to be eye candy at least he looked a little better doing it, right?
Closing his eyes with his lips parted softly to breathe in the fresh scents, though they were almost always parted a little, being that his sense of smell was one of his strong points. Along with the usual smells though he caught another. The scent of a cat, and of many herbs and berries and things of that nature. Being in camp he could always smell that but it was closer now. He enjoyed those scents also, and opened his eyes once more to turn his green gaze to the medicine cat of Riverclan, Mistwing, as he watched her drawing closer from her den.
A bought of excitement washed over him and he nearly jumped up to greet her and ask if she needed help with anything, but he held back and painfully wanted for the she cat to pad over to him, and his tail curled up around his legs and unfurled in the time it took.
"Hello, Mistwing. Actually yes, I always have preferred the heat to the cold." the deputy meowed, which was true. He did have a bit of a thick coat, but it wasn't very long and something about the heat just felt nice. It might have something to do with when he almost drowned, the icy chill of the water, but he wouldn't think about the whys too much. He just liked the heat. His thoughts quickly drifted back to where they had been earlier. "Do you need help with anything? Herb collecting, or... something?" the dark brown tabby asked. Word Count: 363 OOC: Hehe thanks! He is a actually a pretty new character but I am starting to love him myself <3 And yeah, it gets to him sometimes xD Else he would be a little more laid back probably haha! Also, sorry if it takes me a while to post ^^; not used to the 250 word min., though its a nice challenge~[/blockquote]

"Hello Mistwing. Actually yes, I always have preferred the heat to the cold."
Oakheart appeared to be unfazed by the way I had approached the conversation and had even responded with a decent remark. I looked back at him a little impressed. Finally, someone who understood my sarcasm. Although I can't lie and say I don't enjoy getting under other cats pelts with my words. Hehe. Oakheart had always seemed like the anxious type, worrying about everything, so I had subtly avoided spending too much time around him. Since he got promoted to deputy I figured this behavior would need to be changed since I would probably be seeing more of him. To find out that he is unaffected by my banter is a nice surprise and I could feel myself gaining a newly found respect for him. Oakheart spoke once more interrupting my musing.
"Do you need help with anything? Herb collecting, or... something?"
A pleased smile lite my face. It's always nice to be offered something you need before you have to ask. Strange how he seemed to know what I was thinking. Then again it isn't too unusual. Oakheart must have a sense of obligation that made it easy for him to help others and me being the medicine cat, gathering herbs is something I need to do frequently. This being the first warm day since winter makes the much needed herbs more available. Any knowledgeable cat could come to that conclusion using logic alone and Oakheart is the deputy so he should be used to thinking about everything and making logical decisions. I know he hasn't been deputy for long. The fact that he is this intelligent this early in dealings with his position is very promising.
"Of course, thanks for offering. I was wondering if you would be willing to accompany me down to the falls so I can begin replenishing my storage of herbs. Obviously you're not going to be able to identify the ones I want, but you can still be a great help to me. You don't mind picking and carry herbs do you?"
I gazed at him unblinking, my eyes shining with a mischievous glint. Some of the herbs had a bitter flavor and cats not used to the flavor end up making the most ridiculous faces. Of course there is a special technique to carrying them that prevents most of the flavor from touching you're tongue which I mastered long ago. After many failed attempts of course. Back then the bitter taste of these herbs was a constant companion.

O A K H E A R T
((Haha, s'ok! I know people are busy, but I am not and have nothing to do so I forget sometimes, sorry! xD))
"I would be glad to help." Oakheart meowed, ears perking ever so slightly and the rest of him relaxing now and returning to his more laid-back self. He was actually a rather calm cat, but he didn't want to be perceived as lazy(Especially now that he was deputy!) and wanted to be useful and prove his worth, so when nothing needed to be done he could get rather anxious. "No, I don't know that I would be very helpful spotting them." he agreed, purring in amusement. Herbs were never particularly interesting to him anyway, so he knew that there wasn't much useful knowledge like that in his furry brown skull. As he mused over that thought for a moment, the large male realized this may not be such a good thing. What if he held it wrong and ruined something? Chewing this over in his mind for a moment, he decided to voice his concern. "You may have to show me how to held them though, I wouldn't want to ruin something." Noticing a mischievous glint in the she cat's eyes, the tom wondered momentarily what the she had in mind for gathering, but he quickly dismissed the thought with a small flick of his tail. What bad could come of herb collecting? Knowing this particular cat though she probably had something in mind... Mistwing had always seemed a bit of a trouble maker, sarcastic and just... well, herself really. He wasn't judgemental though, if thats how she was that's how she was. Who was he to stay she should be something different? He himself had never had a problem with her, so it didn't matter much to him. A small breeze rustled the grass and woke him from his thoughts, back to the task at paw. "Do you wish to lead the way?" Oakheart meowed, rising to his paws. Of course, he knew where the falls were, but Mistwing knew where the herbs were, so he thought it only right she be in the lead. Also, being rather large and with large paws, he worried he might end up actually stepping on something important. Word count: 357[/blockquote]

"I would be glad to help. No, I don't know that I would be very helpful spotting them."
I dipped my head slightly at Oakheart's words and inwardly smiled. His words sounded nice even if I had trouble believing they were completely true. Blame it on my trust issues, but the way I see it every cat has an agenda and looks out for themselves. While I'm not convinced that all cats are selfish because I have seen moments when acts are done by some cats with no thought to themselves, but this was normally in situations of high stress. Like life and death. Realizing my thoughts were turning morbid I instinctively shied away and shut down that thought path. Oakheart seems like a nice tom so I wonder what his motive for helping me is. Perhaps to curb his boredom. Looking at Oakheart I noticed he was doing some thinking himself. Without warning he seemed to come back to himself and the conversation.
"You may have to show me how to held them, I wouldn't want to ruin something."
I grinned impishly at him and remained silent. There was no way I was revealing my secrets to a warrior regardless of how nice he is.
"Just make sure you don't crush them or drop any and you will be fine."
My response was curt, leaving no room for discussion. I could tell this conversation was ending and waited patiently for Oakheart to come to the same conclusion. I was eager to get started on gathering herbs with the remaining daylight. A breeze wafted through camp threading through my pelt. Oakheart spoke once more.
"Do you wish to lead the way?"
I dipped my head in acknowledgement and stood up. Without another word I turned and padded towards the entrance. I continued through without looking back once to make sure he followed for I was certain he would. Why would I have reason to believe he wouldn't? I mentally went over the list of herbs I had narrowed it down to, making sure I didn't forget any. Chervil, feverfew, juniper berries, lavender, marigold, poppy, tansy, and yarrow. I walked in the direction of the falls keeping my eye open for any stray herb patches, but knowing how unlikely this would be.

O A K H E A R T
Oakhearted nodded his head to show he understoodher rather simple imstructions, sounded easy enough. Rising to his paws, he took a moment to stretch, first his front legs soon followed by the hind ones. A quiet yawn and shake of his head finished off the display before the reddish brown tom padded quickly to catch up with the medicine cat, who had gone ahead. Not that he expected her to wait, she had things to do. Following behind her with a surprising amount of silence, he wondered absently what particular herbs she was looking for. Though the deputy didn't ask because he was sure he wouldn't know what they waere even if she told him the all names. He know what poppyseeds were, and he knew cobwebs helped stopped bleeding, but that was pretty much the extent of his medicinal knowledge. Never much interested him anyway though, it was one of the few things that bored him, and he couldn't quite understand how medicine cats could remember all of that anyway. But eh, someone has to do it, right?
A breeze blew past him, and his open maw caught the scent of a vole. It was his habit to always have it partially opened, as it was his strongest sense and had proved helpful. The scent was fresh, and it was nearby. He hoped it wouldn't be scared away by the passing cats. His ears flickered between where the scent came from and where the vole was, wondering if she would be hungry and therefore grateful or annoyed that he left for a vole. Well... can't let a perfectly good vole go to waste... and he could always bring it back to camp.... At that thought he made his decision and dissapeared into the undergrowth. Minutes later, he reappeared behind Mistwing with the fresh kill in his jaws. Walking up beside her, he tapped her side with his tail and then gestured towards the vole. If she didn't want it he could just bury it.
